Last week, Nicki Minaj disclosed that she received Butt Injections from some “random” person. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now she describes her choice as “insane.”

Joe Budden recently interviewed Nicki Minaj, and the topic of Buttocks Enhancement came up.

Nicki explains before she was famous she had not had any plastic surgery. She had never seen a plastic surgeon but had “ass shots,” in what she describes as an impulsive decision. Her decision was fueled in general by rap culture’s focus on having a big booty and more specifically by comments made by the people in her life.

The Dream of a Rounder Butt

I really enjoyed Nicki’s frank and honest explanation of the pressures she faced as an up and coming artist. She shares the struggles with personal growth and the creative process. The hour and 45 minute podcast is available here: Nicki Minaj on Joe Budden TV.

It is interesting to hear the queen, a recognized mogul of rap, describe the same personal issues we all deal with growing up and trying to make a living. The pressure to succeed and create, and the need for family and children. She reflects back on how comments/teasing made about her booty made her more conscious of these insecurities and fueled her drive to seek a larger buttock in an era before Brazilian Butt Lifts were an option.

Why Are Butt Injections Insane?

When you see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, you can be certain they have successfully completed an accredited training program, and that they continue to maintain their education. They have passed multiple examinations and continue to practice in a safe, predictable and ethical manner, with continuous peer review by experts in the field. We, Board Certified Plastic Surgeons, are held to the highest standard in the aesthetic industry.

With a necklace like that, you can’t hate on Plastic Surgery can you?

Butt Injections are not performed by Plastic Surgeons. Most are performed in a hotel by some “random person” who has not been trained, tested or peer reviewed by experts. The patients have no follow-up care, and the random injector gets no feedback other than the immediate satisfaction after the injection. They do not see the final results, and they don’t see the disfigurement, the hardening, the infections, the drainage, the infections and the effects of toxic injections. Even “medical grade silicone” causes granulomas, hardening and disfigurement over time. There are no safe butt injections available off-the-shelf, and there are plenty of horror stories.

Buttocks Implants

Buttocks Implants are available in the US. The solid medical silicone buttocks implants are firm and do not have a soft gel filling like breast implants. This means they cannot leak, but it also means they are firm to touch.

Personally, I do not think they can predictably give an aesthetic result. They often end up too high, and give a strange shape, especially when they are displaced. The lateral edge can become visible through the skin, and they can rotate. For these reasons, I do not use Buttocks Implants.

Fat Grafting to the Buttocks

Brazilian Buttocks Lift (BBL) and Abdominoplasty - Before and After Picture - Tummy Tuck and Butt Lift

Sometimes BBL is combined with Abdominoplasty. This allows the disproportionate fat from the abdomen to be utilized to enlarge the buttocks.

Fat Grafting to the Buttocks, or the Brazilian Buttocks Lift (BBL), is a reasonable option for patients who are good candidates. There needs to be enough disproportionate fat elsewhere on the body to harvest for grafting. So, if you are very thin, a BBL is probably not a good option. The amount of augmentation is limited by the amount of available fat and the space available to receive the graft. Moreover, the BBL can help improve concavities and asymmetries.

BBL Consultations

Buttocks Enhancement is very subjective. When considering a BBL, be certain to consult with a local Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who is experienced with fat grafting to the buttocks. In the San Francisco Bay Area call (925) 943-6353 for a private consultation.
