Breast Augmentation continues to be one of the most frequently requested cosmetic plastic surgery procedures. While Breast Implants have changed, the goals of Breast Augmentation remain the same. Today I’ll talk a little about Breast Implants, and why it is a good idea to have surgery close to home.
Why Breast Augmentation?
Breast Augmentation is performed for one reason, to add volume to the breast. If this also enhances shape, it is incidental to the augmentation. To change breast shape, a Breast Lift is a more reliable option, especially if you do not want larger breasts.
Why Breast Augmentation Near Me?
Breast Augmentation Revision Surgery is common, and in most cases, it is more complicated than the initial surgery. Revising another surgeon’s work is always more complicated than revising one’s own. For patients, it’s advantageous to be able to see your Breast Augmentation Surgeon whenever you need them, whether for routine follow-up and after care or in case you need a revision. The closer they are, the easier it will be.
How Can You Make Breast Implant Revision Surgery Easier?
Information is key to a successful revision. For me, the more information the better, and I can’t have more information than when I did the original surgery. I have before and after pictures. I have the operative report. I have the implant information. I have the experience of doing the first surgery. Most importantly, I have a relationship with the patient and can better understand their goals.
Breast Revision Surgery is one of my specialties. When I am revising a patient who was originally operated by another surgeon, I am starting from scratch. In many cases, patients do not know the type of implant they have, never mind the size. The size is very helpful to know before surgery, especially in cases when two different sizes were used to correct asymmetry. When the information is not available, I compensate for the unknown variables by bringing more implants so that I have more options with which to complete a successful surgery
Preparation is the best way to ensure your desired outcome during Breast Revision Surgery. The prior surgery details matter. Provide as much information about your initial surgery as possible. During the revision surgery, the specifics will be confirmed when your implants are removed; however, knowing the size and type of implants used during your prior augmentation is very helpful, and allows me to offer options better tailored to your procedure.
The best way to have this information readily available is to get it at the time of your initial surgery. Every Board Certified Plastic Surgeon should provide you with an ID card containing the implant manufacturer, style and size of implants. US manufacturers are also required by the FDA to track their devices. This means your implants should be registered with them too; however, this only helps if you are in the US or Canada.
How To Find A Local Board Certified Plastic Surgeon?
If your friends have had Breast Augmentation, ask them if they would recommend their surgeon. Despite my amazing websites, SEO and media presence, personal referrals drive the majority of patients to my office.
If you do not know anyone who has had the procedure you’re seeking, the Aesthetic Society (ASAPS) and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) have doctor finders on their websites. Also, be sure to check your doctor’s medical license on your state’s medical board website.
If you are not looking on the ASAPS or ASPS site, be certain to check your doctor’s board certification on the American Board of Plastic Surgery website. None of these can guarantee perfect results, but they certainly increase your chances of a good result the first time around.
