My first Body Beautiful show aired in 2007, and it’s hard to believe that next week we start our 14th season. One procedure we will discuss is the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), and today you get a sneak preview.

Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBL)

Brazilian Butt Lifts add volume and support to the buttocks.

Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBL)

The Brazilian Butt Lift or BBL has been the fastest growing cosmetic plastic surgery procedure over the last few years. The concept is simple. Take fat from areas where it is abundant and transplant it into the buttocks to provide volume and support.

Ideally, the fat that was removed from the Tummy Tuck would have been used for the BBL. Fat was scavenged from multiple areas and and meticulously grafted to create rounder buttocks.

The BBL patient above was a challenge as she did not have a lot of fat available for transplanting. Fat was taken from the back, flanks, abdomen and thighs. Removing fat from above and below the buttocks helps to enhance the buttocks’ prominence by recessing the tissues framing them. This allows the fat added to the buttocks to provide maximum bang for the available volume.

Brazilian Butt Lift With Liposuction

The ideal Brazilian Butt Lift patient has extra fat and tight skin in the donor regions. In this case, the patient has disproportionate fat on her abdomen and back that can be utilized for the buttock lift.

Disproportionate fat is a must for the BBL. Fat grafting only works when there is sufficient volume for transplantation.

For the patient above, Liposuction was used to remove excess fat from her abdomen, flanks and back. The fat was processed and then injected into the buttocks to enhance its shape and firmness.

BBL With A Tummy Tuck

A Tummy Tuck is used to flatten the belly. Normally, the abdominal fat is thrown out with the excess skin. In this case, the abdomen was used as a donor site for the Brazilian Butt Lift.

Fat from the lower abdomen is removed with a Tummy Tuck. In this case, fat from the Abdominoplasty was harvested for grafting to the buttocks.

After a BBL, patients usually sleep on their stomachs to avoid crushing the buttocks fat grafts; however, laying on the belly after Abdominoplasty is not possible. Laying on the sides is the only option that protects the fat grafts.

BBL After A Tummy Tuck

Combining the Tummy Tuck with a BBL does make for a harder recovery in terms of not being able to rest on one’s stomach or back; however, the ability to harvest the stubborn lower abdominal fat for transplantation into the buttocks is a huge advantage. The next patient previously had a Tummy Tuck.

The BBL shapes the buttocks and how they are framed. By removing excess fat from around the buttocks and transplanting it into them, a perkier, rounder butt is created. (click or tap the picture to remove black rectangles)

For the patient above, the available fat was from her upper abdomen, flanks and lower back was used for the BBL. Fat Grafting enhanced the convexity of the buttocks, while Liposuction enhanced the concavity of the hollow above the buttocks while also removing her muffin top. Though in this case they were done separately, her tummy tuck and BBL have completely reshaped her body.
