Breast Reduction for Women remains one of the most requested plastic surgery procedures in the US. It is third in line after Breast Augmentation and Breast Lifts. But there is more to Breast Reduction than meets the eye.

What Can Breast Reduction Do For You?

Breast Reduction not only improves breast proportions, it makes many women feel better. Women with Macromastia, the medical term for large breasts, often experience back pain, neck pain and rashes under the breasts. Reduction Mammoplasty can provide relief. It helps women feel more comfortable with their bodies physically and emotionally, by reducing the symptoms and improving the appearance of large, pendulous breasts.

Large breasts can limit physical activity. The mass and momentum of the breasts can make quick movements difficult and often painful. Even wearing multiple bras does not provide adequate support for oversized breasts. Finding suitable bras can be challenging and very costly.

Quality of life is often improved after Breast Reduction. Many patients find that exercise and other daily activities are easier and more enjoyable with proportionate breasts.

Reduction Mammoplasty does more than decrease the weight of the breasts. Breast Reduction reduces the length, torque and movement of the breasts. (Click on picture to remove censoring.)

Breast Reduction is an outpatient procedure which means you go home after surgery. The procedure takes a few hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Postoperative care includes wearing a bra continuously for several weeks; although, you can remove it to shower.

Many patients realize the benefits of breast reduction shortly after surgery and find that their neck and back pain is significantly improved when they wake from anesthesia. Activities like walking are allowed immediately after surgery; however, you will need to avoid repetitive overhead reaching and bouncy activities for a few weeks until you are fully recovered. Scar gel is started a week or two after surgery to help improve the appearance of the scars.
