Surgery statistics are out, and it’s great news for enhancing the quality of life.
Every year the American Society of Plastic Surgery publishes the previous year’s operative statistics. This week, the 2025 numbers have been released, and it’s great news.
Just like the 2024 stats, the procedures are consolidated into three groups:
- Cosmetic Surgery Procedures
- Reconstructive Surgery Procedures
- Minimally Invasive Procedures
Plastic Surgery is on the Rise
There is continued growth in Plastic Surgery as reported in the latest American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ statistics. This trend is definitely noticeable in my Walnut Creek Plastic Surgery Practice, as more and more patients are seeking the advice of a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and scheduling their cosmetic procedures with confidence and excitement. Most of my patients desire breast enhancement, facial rejuvenation and body contouring, to name a few of the procedures offered.
Nationwide, a 6% increase for reconstructive surgery and 7% increase for cosmetic surgery was reported by the ASPS. There is large overlap of these often complimentary classifications, but the 2025 distribution of surgeries is consistent with previous years.
Top 5 Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Procedures
In 2025, reconstructive plastic surgery procedures are up 7% when compared to 2024.
The 2025 Cosmetic Surgery procedures are up 7%, year over year.
The top five Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Procedures have all maintained their 2024 rankings, and they are:
- Liposuction – 317,196 down 1%
- Breast Augmentation including revisions – 304,234 up 11%
- Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) – 173,251 up 2%
- Breast Lift (Mastopexy) – 156,131 up 8%
- Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) – 118,978 up 19%
Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Procedures
In 2025, reconstructive plastic surgery procedures are up 6% when compared to 2024.
The 2025 Cosmetic Surgery procedures are up 6%, year over year.
In 2025, Reconstructive Plastic Surgery is up 6%. The top five Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Procedures were:
- Skin Repair (for Skin Cancer and Wounds) – 367,880 up 5%
- Hand Surgery – 217,205 up 13%
- Debridement (Wound Cleaning) – 203,160 up 2%
- Tumor Removal (Cancerous)- 116,089 up 2%
- Lesion Excision (Non-cancerous) – 55,210 up 2%
Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Procedures
For the first time however, the raw numbers for minimally invasive procedures are not available. Maybe, the Aesthetic Society can shed additional light on this subject when they release their 2025 surgical statistics.
