The 2023 ASPS Procedural Statistics show continued steady growth in cosmetic plastic surgery in the post-pandemic era, as patients continue to place increased value on both their physical and aesthetic health. Today, we will explore the details of the 5% growth in cosmetic surgery, my specialty, and 7% growth in minimally invasive procedures.

The most popular cosmetic body shaping procedure was once again Liposuction. With almost 350,000 fat reducing surgeries performed in 2023, liposuction increased by an impressive 7% year over year. Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty), Brazilian Buttocks Lift (BBL), Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) and Lower Body Lift round out the top five body procedures.

Cosmetic Facial Plastic Surgery also increased last year. The most popular cosmetic facial surgery was the Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty). Over 120,000 Blepharoplasties were performed in 2023, an increase of 5% when compared to 2022. The Eyelid Lift is one of the most common plastic surgeries for both men and women. Facelift (Rhytidectomy), Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty), Facial Fat Grafting, Neck Liposuction and Neck Lifts were the top cosmetic facial plastic surgery procedures in 2023.
2023 Minimally Invasive Procedures up 7%

The most common procedure was Neuromodulator Injections (Botox, Deport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, Daxxify), up 9% from 2022 to 9.5 million. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) based Fillers (Restylane, Juvederm) come in at number two, up 8% at 5.3 million. Skin resurfacing with Dermabrasion and Chemical Peels was third at 3.5 million, followed by Laser Treatments at 3.1 million. The fifth most popular procedure was Lip Augmentation at 1.4 million.
2023 Reconstructive Procedures
With the news covering the shift from reconstructive to cosmetic procedures it is interesting to note that reconstructive procedures also grew by 2%. This includes from most to least often performed: skin cancer and other tumor removal, hand surgery, breast reconstruction, maxillofacial surgery and scar revision.
Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Consultations
Ultimately, the decision to undergo Cosmetic Plastic Surgery should be made after careful consideration of the pros and cons, in consultation with a qualified and experienced Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
In the San Francisco Bay Area call (925) 943-6353 to schedule a private consultation appointment. While the Internet can offer many resources, there is still no substitute for a careful, in-person consultation. It’s essential to prioritize safety, predictability, realistic expectations and individual health when contemplating any Cosmetic Surgery.
